lensbaby

I’ve been asked by a few people what the deal is with pics like these:

Sam's

The answer is a Lensbaby lens that I bought from my friend Ken.. It’s the original one, so it’s not as fast or fancy. It’s basically just a 50mm lens with the front element mounted on flexible bellows. The effect is similar to a tilt/shift lens, but the focal plane is curved, not flat, so you can’t use it for perspective correction or anything like that. It’s fun, but extremely difficult, since you have to focus it manually with the bellows… I am still getting the hang of it.

Lensbabies look to be quite a bit of fun, but it was quite annoying when one of the knitting publishers got one, because in a photo of a sweater that goes with a pattern, you really want to be able to see how the whole damn thing looks, ya know?
