10 Apr 2007Last week, I posted a picture of a Mourning dove that had taken up residence at eye-level in a tree on 1st Ave. I predicted smugly at the time that this wouldn’t last, but check out these hot chicks:
Who’s the asshole now? Also, check out these starlings. I think they were two males fighting for a nesting spot. Or mating. It’s hard to tell. Next week on urban ornithology: the secret life of pigeon shit.
From what I’ve read, doves often have really low or poorly-constructed nests, and those nests are often destroyed by various forces and elements. It’s a wonder they survive, but they clearly do. So you weren’t so much being an asshole as very realistic – this family just beat the odds, apparently! Cool shots, by the way.
