sound and fury

Did all the turmoil over the Sounds stadium signify nothing? It’s possible:

The future doesn’t look good for a new $43-million ballpark for the Nashville Sounds.

The team has yet to accept a proposal by development partner Baltimore-based Struever Bros., Eccles & Rouse to take over construction of the ballpark and become the master developer. If this deal can’t be struck, the two likely won’t file for an extension Friday to get the financing worked out, according to the developer. That decision would effectively kill the ballpark project.

Let’s put a Wal-mart there instead. Who’s with me?

So where are you at with the Westin in your ‘hood?

And what are they tearing down to build it? The Big River restaurant?

From what I understand, the Westin will be basically between where trail west is on third and the opposite corner, which is like a parking lot now (adjacent from joe’s crab shack). Originally, the plan called to tear down the Trail West building, Richards&Richards, and a few others.

They’ve had to scale back, though, and preserve those at least, and then do some “historical feel” work to the facade. (this should give you an idea of what they have in mind).

I am opposed to the idea, but I am also resigned to the fact that it’s gonna happen. I just think it’s ludicrous that they have to put a giant hotel right there. There’s so much room anywhere else. It’s myopic and greedy, I think, to place it right on lower broad and mutilate that area. I don’t think it will be a death knell for that area, but possibly a chink in the armor.

You do know whose FAULT all of this belongs to - the homeless! Those selfish bastards!

As much as I love the baseball and the idea of baseball downtown, this looks like it’s going south..so,why not an urban movie theater along with an ampitheater…give the folks downtown some movies and another outdoor music venue. If you’ve ever been to Newport, Ky (across the river from Cincinnati), those folks have utilized their waterfront and turned into a ‘destination’..some stores, lotsa food choices, and movies. I might just add here that i love the movies, and i’m tired of dealing with Green hills to see the stuff i want to see.

re the sounds..tear down greer..build another stadium in the same general area..woodbine is about to blow up and that’s be a nice anchor to a neighborhood that is on the verge.
