3 reviews for the price of one

These aren’t really reviews, I lied. We saw three movies over the last week or so:

Pirates of the Caribbean: meh. I think that the rest of the world apparently finds Johnny Depp prancing around as a pirate a lot cuter than I do. It was okay, but not great.

A Scanner Darkly: Disclaimer: I haven’t read the PKD book. I found it to be slow and boring through the beginning and middle – sortof like True Romance, except not funny. The ending was good. The “animation” was a stupid, distracting gimmick that I didn’t care for.

Oldboy: One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while – and one of the most messed up. Highly recommended.

We LOVED Oldboy. It was visually stunning with one of the best fight scenes (the long one). The ending was so, so disturbing. Have you seen Audition?

No – any good? We wanted to go see Lady Vengeance while it was at the belcourt, but I think we missed it..

Audition is more horror. The only fictional movie I have EVER seen that has made me gag, and I’ve seen a lot.

I had heard that Oldboy was part of a trilogy so we’ve been looking into the other two. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance Oldboy Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
