A Republican candidate, Jim Bryson, advocates a progressive tax policy change:

Bryson had another idea for the extra money — decreasing the sales tax on food.

“That’s going to help everybody in the state, particularly those that are the poorest,” Bryson said.

As Moe Syzlak would say:

moe syzlak

“Whaaaaaa???”

Kudos to Bryson on this one.

Decreasing it from zero? He wants the state to pay people to buy food? …Hm, I guess that’s what food stamps are.

Milton Friedman was a big advocate of a negative income tax, where the tax rate actually dipped below 0 into the negative range for the lower income brackets.
