agent eight

So, here’s something fun for Friday. In high school and intermittently during college (well, what college I actually bothered with), I was in a band. We were called Agent Eight – I played bass and sang on some songs. It also featured Aaron Hock on drums, Steve Linn on keys, and Daniel Hearn on vox/guitar.I have a ton of mp3s from various times in our rock music career, but I thought I’d toss a few up here. Most of these were recorded in or around 1998 and 1999 – either live at clubs or in practice sessions with a little mini-boombox or a dictaphone mic (yes, we took our sound engineering seriously). We have other, better recordings we did digitally/multitrack that are great documentation that I would make a bitchin recording engineer, but we never really finished them, and so they aren’t as fun to listen to. The quality is horrible, but you can still hear the rocking:

“Chris & Amanda” – recorded during practice, I think. Ironically, it’s about an entirely different Chris and an entirely different Amanda. Features Daniel hitting the wrong chord for an entire bar. (This is why you practice, folks.)

“In the Air” – a 4-track demo of one of our songs that I actually had nothing to do with. It kicks ass, nonetheless.

“In the Air” – a live version of the same song. Includes a minute of Daniel setting his delay people, which I think some people thought was part of the song. I kinda like it.

thanks for the little trip down musical memory lane, Chris. got any more stuff? why we never got that multi-million dollar record deal still remains a mystery to me.

I have a ton of stuff, actually. I was thinking about resurrecting some sort of website on agenteight.com (i still own the domain) to showcase what I have..

Dude, you should do it! I would love to have a full digital library of our catalog. Plus what better way to start some word of mouth for our comeback tour in 2010.

it’s not that i didn’t love you before, but i loves you more now. i actually have all that stuff with me in NZ on a CD, but still fun to see it up on the dubdubdub. and of course the narcissistic thrill of seeing my very own name in print-oh joy! love the band. miss the band. want the band. did you sell your bass amp? (if so, i say under my breath, ‘fool’)

No, I didn’t, but I came very close when we last moved back to market street apts in July.. It’s currently at my parents’ house, along with my cabinet and stuff.

I am still holding on to the dream.. by a thread.

I have never heard this live version of Metropolis. Truly from the vault, Chris. I miss you guys (I know I see you, Chris, but I miss you anyways). Another reunion is definitely in order.

Still rocks.
