Also, bullshit. Yadda yadda yadda capitalism is horrible, lots of boldface, lots of passive-voice “It is estimated” without references, lots of scare words. Then note the source of this bold, incisive analysis of the System of Oppression: an organic food delivery company.
This is just raw meat for vegans. Capitalism coopts every niche, that’s its genius.
Thanks for the link, Chris.
Well, t. rev, you’ve certainly shown me how to substantiate an argument. So “bullshit” yourself. There. Q.E.D.
If that’s not enough for you, though, you might notice that the post linked here was a followup to a much longer post on the Green Revolution, with a lot of material on just HOW capitalism “coopted” those “niches.”
Myths of organic farming:
We could feed the world with organic farming. We can’t.
Organic farming is sustainable. It isn’t. There are several studies showing that organic techniques deplete the soil, leading to smaller and smaller yields over the long term.
Organic foods are always healthier. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, but it’s not a given.
Les Jones,
That first is a remarkably broad assertion. Care to back it up? If you check my earlier post on the Green Revolution, you’ll see I went into some detail comparing the techniques of large-scale plantation cash-crop farming with the most advanced forms of subsistence farming. Small-scale farming is by far more productive in terms of per-acre yield. And BTW, “we” don’t need to feed the world. Before the land of millions upon millions of peasants was stolen by local oligarchies in collusion with Western agribusiness, they were feeding THEMSELVES.

Bullshit.
