I was under the impression (as was “John Galt” in the comments) that they weren’t going to demolish the theatre but rather incorporate it into some newer superstructure (which is almost as grotesque to imagine as demolishing it).

Why is either necessary? There was a like a guerilla-style propaganda campaign in hillsboro village to save Belcourt when it was in peril, and honestly Belcourt is sortof a dump compared to the Belle Meade theatre. Where is the movement to save Belle Meade Theatre? How does that sort of thing work? Is it a zoning issue? Who needs to be petititioned? Does anyone know what the official status and fate of the theatre is?
