guantanamo

Cheney is shocked, SHOCKED:

WASHINGTON, May 30 - Vice President Dick Cheney emphatically defended the handling of detainees at Guantánamo Bay in an interview to be broadcast tonight, saying that they had been “well treated, treated humanely and decently” and that some accusations to the contrary were “lies.”

If only there were some impartial international agencies designed to inspect these sorts of arrangements to make sure everything is kosher so we don’t have to rely on the dubious testimony of former prisoners.

And it is not just Amnesty International (http://web.amnesty.org/page… “http://web.amnesty.org/pages/guantanamobay-index-eng)”)

It was the Red Cross too (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/… “http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3179858.stm)”)

If only we didn’t have to rely on dubious politicians who tell us everything is ok, but won’t let us check for ourselves.

And we really don’t have to rely on the prisoners to know that they are being held without charge, without legal representation, etc.
