la tortilla factory
20 Apr 2005I would like to publicly thank the fine people over at La Tortilla Factory. I myself have never visited the factory, but I hear it’s quite nice.
But, let me tell you, their low-carb wraps are about the best thing to ever happen to me, next to, I don’t know, let’s say, “switching to boxers”. Don’t let the “low carb” fool you – it’s not about the lack of carbs. It’s about the fiber. These days bread really has no place in my regular diet, and these things are the ultimate substitute. I typically just throw some cheese on them and nuke it for a few seconds for a snack/meal. The onion ones are great, too.
Check out the nutrition information on their site for the “Low-Carb/Low Fat Large Size”. That’s right, only 80 calories and 14g of fiber per serving. That’s over half your RDA. So, uh, that’s a mixed blessing, if you know what I mean. Just take it easy with them and you’ll be ok. Definitely don’t eat 5 of them in one day. Definitely don’t do that.
If you’re looking for a true tortilla replacement for that mexican food experience, don’t get these – they are definitely more on the “wrap” side of things. Mission makes a great low-carb tortilla that are virtually indistinguishable from their regular ones and are pretty high in fiber without getting into the “super colon-blow” territory that the La Tortilla Factory ones do.
