new hammond B3?

My dad tells me that Hammond is re-issuing a new B3 for the first time.

However, it’s a synthesizer, like the XB-3 was before it. No tonewheels.

But, he tells me that he’s heard it, and it sounds pretty awesome. Also, they are building the cabinet so that it’s interchangeable with vintage analog B-3 parts. Sounds pretty cool.

I put some pictures up here.

Ah well, just give the boys at hammond/suzuki(brr…) another 5 years or so… After the nice-looking, crappy-sounding awful expensive (yep, you could buy 2 completely refurbished B3’s for the price of 1 XB3) XB3 it took them a few years to realize that the easiest way to re-create the keyresponse of a B was to recreate the original keyboard - I wonder how long it will take them to realize how the sound of the tonewheelgenerator is reproduced (should be easy nowadays with CNC-lathes/mills and all…)

Dear Hammond-lovers, A friend of mine has played the B3 for many years end suggested me to buy the XB3 for ‘on-stage’ purposes. And indeed, the XB3 is easier to carry. Nevertheless, Suzuki hasn’t succeeded in creating the exact B3 sound. On the other hand, I prever taking the XB3 on stage, looking at its weight. Furthermore, one should not compare a Harley Davidson with a Suzuki Hayabusa either…

I’m 55 and have been hauling around a B-3/Leslie 147 for 35 years. I have an XK-2 and a mini-b chop model. Nothing compares to the real thing. As long as I can pull my trailer to gigs I’ll always play the b-3 on tours, local gigs, and in the studio.

Wow - a Hamnond blog from 2002! I like many new and old Hammond organs. I’ve never been a fan of the spinets. I play out with my XK1, a tube-driven guitar amp, and a bar stool. The establishment provides the bar stool, and my equipment fits nicely in a mid-sized sedan. Sure - I would prefer to only play bars that provide vintage Hammond consoles. I’m very thankful a beer (and ashtray!) fit nicely on the top of my XK-1.
