Woohoo! David Byrne is playing at the Ryman Auditorium, probably one of Nashville’s coolest music venues. Prior to becoming home of the Grand Ole Opry, it opened its doors in 1892 as an opera (opry? get it?) house – an architectual wonder designed by Tom Ryman. Eventually, though, the Grand Ole Opry began to outgrow the class of the Ryman Auditorium, and I also think there was some sort of fire-code violation problem involving the legal limit for number of sequined outfits allowed in one business-district building.
Anyhow, it’s a really neat place – I saw Elvis Costello there, and it was pretty amazing.
